About

CyberCostLab helps small business owners make clearer cybersecurity purchasing and planning decisions. We focus on a practical set of questions: what protection does a business actually need, what should it cost, which tools are worth paying for, and how can those decisions be implemented without unnecessary complexity?

Our Mission

Cybersecurity advice is often written for technical teams or large organizations. Small businesses face a different problem: limited budgets, limited time, fewer internal specialists, and a market full of products that can be difficult to compare. CyberCostLab exists to translate security decisions into practical business choices.

What We Cover

Our core topics include cybersecurity costs and budgeting, cyber insurance readiness, security software, practical business protection, industry-specific security priorities, and tools and checklists that help turn guidance into action.

We concentrate primarily on small businesses, with particular attention to companies that do not have a large internal security team.

How We Approach Cybersecurity Guidance

We start with the business decision rather than the technology. When discussing a security product or control, we aim to explain what problem it solves, when a small business may need it, what can affect its cost, what alternatives or existing capabilities should be considered, and what questions should be asked before purchasing.

We distinguish vendor-published prices, third-party benchmarks, illustrative calculations and estimates rather than presenting them as equivalent evidence. Where possible, cost work links to the CyberCostLab Small Business Cybersecurity Cost Model 2026, which documents dated inputs, assumptions, exclusions and changes. We avoid presenting a single budget, product, insurer or security stack as appropriate for every company.

Independent Editorial Approach

Our goal is to make useful information the primary reason a page exists. Commercial relationships should not determine our conclusions. If CyberCostLab uses affiliate links or receives compensation connected with content, we aim to disclose that relationship clearly and maintain separation between commercial arrangements and editorial judgment.

Research, Accuracy and Updates

Cybersecurity products, prices, threats, insurance requirements and vendor capabilities change. For decision-critical claims, we prefer primary material such as vendor documentation, insurer application materials, government guidance and standards publications. Important research pages may show a review date or methodology so readers can judge freshness. When a material factual error is identified, we correct the published information rather than preserving it for consistency.

Who CyberCostLab Is For

CyberCostLab is built for owners, managers, and people responsible for technology decisions in small businesses. You do not need to be a cybersecurity specialist to use our guides. We aim to explain enough technical context to support a decision without turning every article into an engineering manual.
