Small Business Cyber Insurance Readiness Checker
Use this evidence-based preparation tool before requesting cyber insurance quotes or completing an application. It is built around control areas that appear in published insurer application materials. It does not predict eligibility, pricing, coverage, or an underwriting decision.
Choose the answer that best describes what is actually implemented today. If you cannot verify a control, choose “Not sure”.
Why This Checker Does Not Give You a Score
A simple “8 out of 10 = ready” score can be misleading. Insurers do not all ask the same questions, and the scope matters: MFA on email is not the same statement as MFA on remote access or privileged accounts. This tool therefore produces a preparation report and evidence list instead of pretending to reproduce an insurer’s underwriting model.
What Published Insurer Materials Actually Ask About
Coalition’s published application guidance includes questions about weekly backups kept offline or on a separate network, MFA for email, remote access and privileged accounts, and secondary verification for certain funds transfers. Chubb application material separately examines ransomware-safe backups, including immutable or offline copies, restricted backup access, MFA for backups, and restore/recoverability testing. Travelers publishes dedicated CyberRisk application forms plus MFA and social-engineering-fraud supplements.
Evidence Is as Important as the Checkbox
Before completing an application, confirm the actual scope of each control and gather current evidence: admin settings, backup schedules, restore-test records, privileged-account inventories, training records and written payment-verification procedures. Do not answer from memory or assume that a control covers every system simply because the product supports it.

Important Limitation
CyberCostLab does not provide insurance, legal, or underwriting advice. This checker is an educational preparation tool only. It cannot determine whether an insurer will offer coverage, what exclusions or limits will apply, or what premium you will pay. Always answer an insurer’s application accurately and confirm ambiguous questions with the insurer or broker.
